What are Delay Flags?
As part of daily project maintenance, users will add "Delay Flags" to schedule tasks and job logs when situations arise that delay the daily progress of the project. With support from the platform, users are able to quickly determine how the delay will impact future schedule dates and the overall delivery timeline for a project.
As Delay Flags will be used to denote delays in the schedule, Delay Tasks are not to be added to schedules.
✐ Note: You can always look up unfamiliar terms in our Comprehensive Glossary of Key Terms. Key terms are bolded, italicized and in quotation marks. Like so, "Bill"

Why did we create Delay Flags?
Operations teams will use Delay Flag data to evaluate the impacts different delays have on cycle times, earned revenue, and overall health of a project, helping us mitigate risk in future projects.
- All delays that directly impact milestone or critical path dates will be flagged. Blueprint will prompt you to add Delay Flags in this scenario.
- Occasionally there are delays that do not impact the schedule as time can be made up elsewhere. Any 0 day delays that involve a trade partner or consultant should be recorded for reporting purposes. Blueprint will not prompt you to add flags in this scenario, you will need to manually add a delay flag.
✐ Note: Even though 0 day delays do not impact the schedule timeline, we would like to collect data around our trade partner interactions to better inform our partnerships moving forward.

How to use Delay Flags?
Delays that directly impact milestone or critical path task dates...
1. Adjust your dates to account for the delay. When dates are adjusted on a milestone or critical path task, a pop-up modal will ask you to enter in Delay Flag information.
2. Enter the appropriate reason code for the delay as well as any additional context that you are able to provide. The delay duration will auto populate based on the changes made to the schedule task dates.
3. Clicking on the Flag icon will take you to the Flags section of the Details tab in the Schedule Task Side Panel where you can see all Flags on a task. You are able to edit Delay Flag descriptions if necessary.
✐ Note: If a delay flag is deleted, it will not show up on reporting. Do not delete delay flags unless they were made in error.
What if I recorded a delay and it ended up being shorter than expected?
If you recorded a delay and the delay was not as long as expected, simply update your task dates to make them accurate. Then, you can edit your Delay Flag description using the pencil icon and add more context about what happened. See an example below:
Do not delete the Delay Flag, we still want to capture that a delay occurred.
Delays that do not impact schedule dates...
1. If there is a delay that will not impact schedule dates, but involved a trade partner or consultant, you will add a Delay Flag manually.
2. Click on the Flag icon in the Actions column on schedules to auto scroll to the Flags section of the Details tab in the Schedule Task Side Panel. Click "Add a Flag".
3. Enter the appropriate reason code for the delay as well as any additional context that you are able to provide. When adding a delay flag manually, the delay duration is always 0.
