What is the Specs & Selections tab used for?
The Specs & Selections screen is where a project's construction scope lives. A finalized and accurate scope of work is required to upload the construction contract, buyout work on the home, and invoice the homeowners. Specs & Selections is the backbone of the project. Line items can be added to Specs & Selections one by one, by Library Template for from a ReadyPlan Template.
Note: If changes are made to the scope after initial contract, change events can be made. Read more about change events here.
Steps to adding a Spec to Specs & Selections:
Step 1: Press Add Items
You can add line items from the drop-down menu at the top right of the screen. You can add items:
- From Template which will import from Scope Templates in the Library
- From Import will allow you to import line items from a .CSV. Please reach out to Product Ops should you need help formatting your .CSV
- New will simply add Item Codes one at a time
Step 2: Understand Blueprint Cost Types
When you add a new line item you will get a Modal as shown below. You will need to add the "Item Code" and the "Cost Type" then click Add. There are 5 different cost types to choose from when adding a line item to your project. The use of each is detailed below:
- Labor: This cost type is used for any work being done by a third-party contractor like a roofer or electrician. In Blueprint, labor trade commitments are considered subcontracts. To learn more about creating subcontracts in Blueprint, read step 3 in Creating a Trade Commitment

Materials: This cost type is used for any physical product used for the home like appliances and and flooring. In Blueprint, commitments made for the purchase of materials are considered purchase orders.

- Subcontractor: This cost type is used to refer to turnkey items in the scope of work, or work that bundles both labor and materials.
- Equipment: This cost type is used for the rental of any equipment used on the project like an excavator or lift.
- Other: This cost type is a catch-all for any work that doesn't fit under the four designated categories. Line items categorized as other may include inspections or utility connections.
Step 3: Add Pricing and Additional Information to the Line Item from the Item Screen
Clicking on any line item will bring up the drawer on the right where you can edit the details including "Unit of Measure", "Cost", "Markup", "Homeowner Price" etc.
From this screen, you can also add any specifications (visible to everyone), trade notes (visible to trades), and internal notes (visible to only Homebound employees). By utilizing these fields, you can detail any further information on a particular line item and keep Blueprint as the universal source of truth on all information regarding the project. These notes will show up on the PO. A
Step 4: Bulk Actions to Line Items
By checking multiple boxes to the left of line items you can perform certain Bulk Actions to items in Specs & Selections such as Deleting Items, Duplicating Items, Updating Markup Globally and Exporting Line Items to a .CSV
